Edmonton's Biggest Problem - the Economy

Image
Sure, there's depth, quality, professionalism (where, thanks to Kane's antics, the Oilers fell *far* short), etc, but, get this: Edmonton spends about $105m on salary and the Panthers - meow - $66m.  Means? It's hard to attract talented players to the middle of nowhere. You have to pay them big bucks. How else do you explain Florida's depth. I don't know the numbers - but I think I heard something along the lines of the top ice time for a Florida player was about 16 minutes - vs about 30 minutes for the likes of McDavid and Draisaitl. It's game over right there. How are you going to recover that way? A better strategy - once you've one a sapping game, let yourselves lose one by being defensive with 2nd tier players. Just my thought. It was tough to watch - the Edm players so worn out, they were struggling to make passes at times. When they won, they sneaked through by a single goal. When they lost, they took a whipping. Congratulations Sasha Barkov - first E...

No Match for Panther Recovery, Pace and Discipline - Oilers Need a Miracle

That being said, there's always the luck factor. The fact that Paul Maurice has so much more experience than Knoblauch should have been enough to settle this one. The sad thing is how the Oilers outspend the Panthers by more than 50%. Given that, should have the wherewithal to ensure full recovery following a grueling game. Just not there.. When the Oilers win, they win by the skin of their t, a lone goal, in overtime. When the Panthers win, it's a rout.

Every job application I fill out asks: "Are you a veteran?" I check yes, feeling proud of my 16 years in the Air Force. But then I wonder—what happens to that information? If veterans are supposedly valued for being cool under pressure and highly capable, why does it feel like that checkbox leads to a dead end instead of an open door? I spent my Air Force career in Public Affairs—managing communications, handling crisis messaging, coordinating with media, and ensuring clear information flow under intense pressure. These skills translate directly to PR, marketing, corporate communications, and dozens of other civilian roles. Yet somehow, the conversation often stops at "military experience." Here's what I want recruiters and hiring managers to understand about what veterans bring to your organization: We're natural leaders who've managed teams in high-stakes environments where failure wasn't an option. We own accountability like it's part of our D...

Cliffhanger. Even, Ending with a Finish that Included Some Flair

Incredible stuff. Sure, both teams have character - talk about Florida coming back from 2-0 games down against Toronto (being favorites to win despite that deficit really says something for your reputation!). I'm still picking Florida to hold on for the cup - something about Barkov's influence on the rest of the team. I'd be surprised if Edmonton can pull it off.  Great result for Edmonton, but, somehow, Florida just comes off as the better, more professional team. True, I'd rate Edmonton's performance against Dallas much higher than Florida's against Carolina - they pretty much went to sleep in Game 4 where they should have wrapped things up. Worthy winners of an engrossing slugfest.  Miles racked up on the treadmill watching this one : 7.7 :) Quoting  https://www.nhl.com/news/florida-panthers-edmonton-oilers-game-1-recap-june-4 :  The Panthers lost for the first time when leading after the first or second period in three postseasons under coach Paul Maurice. ...
