Qspice : A Sad Day for the Tech Community

Image
Catching up with the genius after four years, I was struck by how much he had declined. And I didn't know he needed an insulin pump. No, it's not type 2. And he couldn't even say Caligula right. Sad, sad, sad. "Calliglia." If you were to write a book, what would it be on? I wish I'd taken the time to write a book about all the travel that I did. I tried suggesting that the UI needed work, but he wasn't having any of it. Everything I came out with set the standard at the time. Really?:)  Something about an SPI or an I2C interface being a native class, and so just six lines of code. There are some things in LT that aren't done right, so Qspice is about 2x faster. First version of LT was written in 10 months and nobody wanted it. Something about adding support for oscillograms. Went over my head.

Genius to Jackass - Sad Story of the Apple Store

Who knows what it could be? Post-partum depression after the Vision Pro fiasco? Hey, it can happen. I got stuck with a poor dude sporting an imitation Veerappan moustache who had to use Google to try and find a solution to my adapter issue. Then, goes over to the ear-bud section and starts chatting with another genius. I hoped it was about my problem, but, more than 10 minutes later, both of them walk right past me. Maybe it is time for John Terminus to take over after all. Grandpa Cook is only cooking their goose.

Caught up with Eric Miller of PADT :  https://thecoppergadfly.substack.com The economy is looking up - usually January is slow, but we've been busy. One software package they use runs about $80k for a license and about 20% of that for yearly maintenance. Unrelated, one big name software company whose stock has taken a beating paid way too much to acquire another software co. The conglomerate has way too much debt to equity.

The Road to Recovery with FSD

Got to catch up with an acquaintance who moved on from a big EV company due to burnout. It was sad to see someone younger than me look at least a decade older. But, that's what it takes to make a dent in the universe. If you're working for yourself, it energizes you. If you're working for someone else, it burns you out. I guess. Did you see others retire because of exhaustion? Oh yeah. Usually people leave after six years. He always worked Saturdays from home. M-F it was 9:30 to 7:30, but you're focused on work 100% - whatever that means :) Did you have vacations? "Oh yeah. It wasn't that bad." Apparently, the biggie cares about the robot program a lot - doing two meetings a week. They're late to the party in the humanoid robot scene, but, when they do come out with something, it'll probably be way better than what anyone else has. "Oh yeah!" Makes you wonder, don't it, why the Austin taxi thing has been such a fiasco. Is it just an ...
