Retirement - What One Person Says

1. At what age you think you want to retire from your main stream job.

Ideally 60. But worst case 62.5

2. Do you think it is easy for a Desi single to retire in the US?

Not easy but possible

3.Are you considering any other country to retire?

Not at this moment. I did think about Portugal

4. How much do you think a desi single person needs to retire in US? I understand it is based on several factors. But we should start thinking about it.

Depends on many factors. $3.5 millions in income generating and conservative growth investments with a paid off house for a life expectancy of 90 years for retirement at 60.

5. What is your biggest fear about retiring as a single person.

Long term illness with no support..Long term care. I am not afraid of death but going through lengthy and painful illness with no support.

These are hard questions. Many of us are impacted financially after the separation from partner. So hopefully folks can share some thoughts and ask questions too.

Absolutely. I was ready for retirement at 53 with a paid off house and enough for both me and my ex to live comfortably till 95 years of each of our life expectancy. Divorce after 30 years of marriage cut down the assets by more than 50 percent. So will work for another 4 years towards 60 year target and see if it is time to unwind
